An agent or editor has requested your synopsis. That's great. But what the hell is it? What should it look like? A synopsis is what an agent or editor wants so they can be reasonably assured that you can put a cogent story together. It is not a query letter. It is not meant to hook the reader with evidence of your style. You're past that point. KEEP IT SHORT!

  • no flowery prose. no adjectives or adverbs.
  • no sense of mystery, no trying to sell the plot.
  • if it is not absolutely germane to the plot, cut it out.

It should be about 1 page. If it's a very convoluted plot, 2 pages. No more. I am keeping this short for a reason. I am just giving you the information. This is what you should do with a synopsis.
